Doing a Government Proposal? There’s an App for That (Part IV)!

In the most recent issue of Proposal Management (Spring/Summer 2011), Beth Wingate, Managing Director of the Lohfeld Consulting Group, provided proposal professionals with a detailed description of her favorite apps on the new Apple iPad (64GB, 3G) that they can use in proposal development.  While iPad apps do not run on PCs, many PC-based applications are being turned into apps, as the list below indicates.

Below are apps that I think will especially help in the proposal development process from conceptualization through proposal delivery.

Dogpile (

This app enables you to do Web searches across multiple search engines simultaneously, including Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

Life Hacker (

Despite its title, this innocuous app provides information about software tools and social networking sites.

Reader Digital Book (

Tired of carrying around those heavy RFPs and amendments?  This pocket edition holds up to 1,200 books and can store many other files.

dtSearch (

dtSearch enables you to search files for words, phrases, and texts on desktop computers, networks, your intranet, and the Internet.

What Time Is It? (

The story is told that once Yogi Berra was asked this question.  He replied with complete aplomb, “Do you mean now?”  If you are flummoxed like Yogi, this app may help by providing you with the time in other locations around the world.

These programs and tools are becoming more widely available and widely used in proposal development.  While most of them are free, some require a fee to download.
